Things to do

Things to do in Old Quebec on foot

Old Québec is compact, so most of its best sights are a short walk from each other. Here is what to see and how to see it.

Walk Dufferin Terrace

The boardwalk beside the Château Frontenac looks over the St. Lawrence River and the Citadel. It is part of both The Grand Tour and the Heart of Old Quebec City audio tour.

Follow the fortifications

Quebec City’s ramparts are a heritage site that is unique in North America. Walk them with The Fortifications audio tour. The Citadelle is an active military base with its own guided tours, so the walking tour covers its exterior and history.

Visit Place Royale and Petit-Champlain

Place Royale is the birthplace of Quebec City, with stone houses dating from the 1600s and 1700s. A few steps away, rue du Petit-Champlain is one of the oldest commercial streets in North America. Hear the story on Place Royale and Petit-Champlain.

Step into the courtyards

Old Québec hides courtyards that most visitors walk past: the Ursulines, the Seminary and Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral. A guided walk takes you through them and explains what you are looking at.

Go inside the history

Immersion Québec tells the history of the city in virtual reality, a few steps from Place Royale.
